How to Delete Your Account

What Happens When You Delete in the App

Deleting your account in the app anonymises your profile. The account record isn't erased from our database, but the details that identify you on your profile are removed or replaced.

Removed from your profile:

• Your email
• Your profile photo
• Your bio, Instagram handle and YouTube handle
• Your gender (reset to "Unspecified") and verification status (reset to unverified)

Replaced on your profile:

• Mobile number on the account — swapped for a random placeholder. You can no longer sign in to this account, and your number is free to use for a new one.
• Name — changed to "Deleted User" followed by your mobile number.

What We Keep

We want to be upfront: your mobile number is not fully removed. It stays on record as part of the anonymised name ("Deleted User" followed by your number), so we can keep accurate records of the events and RSVPs linked to your account.

These details also stay on the anonymised account, unchanged: your date of birth, your language preference, and the date you joined.

What Isn't Deleted

Deleting your account in the app does not delete the events or content connected to it:

• Events you host — stay as they are, including activities, settings and invite links. Your guests can still open them, and the host name shown is the anonymised name.
• Guest lists and RSVPs in your events — stay unchanged, including guests' names, mobile numbers, food preferences, stay and travel details, and answers to your questions.
• Photos and videos — anything you uploaded to an event gallery stays in that gallery.
• RSVPs you gave as a guest — stay part of the host's event, with the details you entered.
• Co-hosting — you stay listed as a co-host, under the anonymised name, on events you co-host.
• Message records — records of WhatsApp invites, reminders and announcements sent through Ootsav, and their delivery status, are kept.

Want More Removed?

Email us at admin@ootsav.in. Our team can permanently delete your account itself, along with the events you host and the guest lists, RSVPs and photo galleries in them. Tell us what you'd like removed and we'll confirm what we've done.

If you only RSVP'd as a guest, without an Ootsav account, email us with the event name and your details and we'll help remove your RSVP from the host's event.

Processing Timeline for Email Requests

• Acknowledgment: Within 48 hours of receiving your request.
• Identity verification: We may contact you to verify your identity before acting on the request.
• Action on your request: Within 15 days of verifying it.
• Backups: Copies of your data may remain in our database backups for a limited time after deletion.
• Confirmation: You will receive an email telling you what was removed.

Before You Delete

• In-app deletion can't be undone. Once your profile is anonymised, you can't sign back in to that account or recover what was removed.
• Upcoming events: Your events stay live after in-app deletion, but you won't be able to manage them. If you have guests coming, let them know, or ask us to delete the events instead.

Your Rights

In addition to deletion, you may also exercise the following rights by contacting us:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data.
• Portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
• Restriction: Request restriction of processing in certain circumstances.
